KATHMANDU, Feb 14: The campaign of promoting traditional Nepali foods in the global food arena is progressing at a fast rate. The Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN) is promoting 23 traditional Nepali food dishes in the global arena to bring them to similar stature as Italian, Chinese, and similar foods.
Although Nepali people have been operating Nepali food restaurants worldwide, the understanding of Nepali foods abroad is limited to rice and lentils. The campaign by HAN is gaining some international recognition, and the 23 dishes focused by the campaign is slowly finding their way into Nepali restaurant menus around the world.
Tourists who visit Nepal tend to spend 35 to 40 percent of their total expenditure on food. If their spending on food can be increased, it is believed that Nepali tourism can also be better promoted.
Millions of tourists tend to visit countries like Thailand, Italy, and Vietnam just to taste their traditional foods. General Secretary of HAN, Binayak Shah, claims that if Nepali cuisine is promoted in a similar manner, there can be birth of an entirely new product in Nepali tourism.
