KATHMANDU, Feb 12: The Everest Nepal Cultural Group is conducting its 9th International Folk Festival with the aim of promoting Nepalese culture in the world. The festival is set to take place from March 1 to March 10.
The Everest group, which has been working on preserving and promoting Nepal’s culture from a long time, is inviting artists from 10 countries to showcase the cultures of different countries, said the group’s President, Ram Chandra Koirala, in a press conference on Sunday.
The festival is being conducted at Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Nawalparasi, and Kaski. Koirala said that the festival is an effort at promoting Nepali culture at a time when the youths of Nepal are more interestted in foreign culture. “Artist from different countries will don their traditional attire and perform their cultural dances and folk songs for the duration of the festival,” he said.
The festival will have attendance of more than 300 artists from Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Costa Rica, Estonia, Greece, Turkey, Italy, and Israel. The festival is conducted every two years since 2000, over which time more than 3500 artists and performers from 65 countriies have performed their culture at the festival through folk music and dance.
