KATHMANDU, Apr 16: Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal is making preparations to start night flights from Bhadrapur and Janakpur airport. Keeping the growing number of air passengers in mind, CAAN is preparing to start night flights from the two airports.
Director General of CAAN, Sanjiv Gautam, said “We are in the process of separating the budget and announcing global tender to purchase runway lights. We will start the night flights within 7 months.” He also said that the certification for night flights has already been completed, and that design for the Bhadrapur Airport has been completed, with the design for Janakpur Airport being made currently.
General Secretary of Hotel Association of Nepal, Binayak Shah, said that the operation of night flights from these two airports will definitely aid in the tourism development of those regions. “Night flights at Janakpur, which is considered an important location for religious tourism, will help hotel enrepreneurs greatly.”
Aviation Minister Rabindra Adhikari had previously spoken about finding ideal ways to deal with the air traffic congestion. CAAN reports that the operation of night flights in congested airports was started on the urging of Minister Adhikari. CAAN had previously started night flights in Dhangadi Airport in Province 7.
