Khumjung Youth Club  won 14th edition of 'Khumbu Lhosar Cup'

KATHMANDU:Khumjung Youth Club won the 'Khumbu Lhosar Cup' football competition after defeating Mahendra Jyoti Ex Students Forum 2-0 in the final match today (Monday) at the Sano Gaucharan Stadium. Mahendra Jyoti Ex Students Forum finished second in the competition, while Khumbu Yambu Sherpa Society took third place.

Khumjung Yuva Club's Phura Chiring Sherpa was the tournament's best striker. Others honored players were Best Midfielder Mingma Tamang of the Khumbu Yambu Sherpa Society and Best Defender Lakpa. Rita Sherpa of Khumjung Yuva Club, Best Goalkeeper Phurva Gelzen Sherpa of Khumjung Yuva Club, and Best Player Mahendra Jyoti Ex Students Forum Nigma Temba Sherpa: Emerging The highest scorer was Kesang Chiring Sherpa of the Thamichhowa football team, followed by Chiring Rita Sherpa of the Thamichhowa football team.

The winning team, Khumjung Yuva Club, receives a cash prize of one lakh rupees, a running shield, a medal, and a certificate; the second-place team, Mahendra Jyoti Ex Students Forum, receives a cash prize of fifty thousand rupees, a medal, and a certificate; and the third-place team, Khumbu Yambu Sherpa Society, receives a cash prize of Rs.25,000, medals, and certificates.

The competition lasted eight days and featured eight teams.

This 14th edition of the 'Khumbu Lhosar Cup' competition was co-organized by Yambu Thamisro Kidug Kathmandu and Umichchowa Yuva Group, two Thamicho-based organizations.

In 2010, Shervi Yoden Chokpa, an umbrella organization of students from Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality in the northern part of Koshi Province's Solukhumbu District, launched the Khumbu Lhosar Cup football tournament in celebration of Lhosar, the great festival of Sherpas.
