KATHMANDU, Apr 16: A new airline company, Thai Lion Air, is starting flights between Kathmandu and capital of Thailand, Bangkok. With the new addition, 3 airlines will now be serving flights between these destinations.
Thai Lion Air is starting flights between Bangkok and Kathmandu after receiving operating permit from Tribhuvan International Airport. The airline has received permission to operate 7 flights in a week. It will be receiving flight schedules from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.
Previously, the Bangkok-Kathmandu route was provided only by Thai Airways and Nepal Airlines. The new arrival, Thai Lion Air, is an associate company of Lion Air from Indonesia, and is known as a budget airline. Officials say that while this may help increase tourist arrivals from Thailand, the traffic congestion issue at TIA may pose problems.
