11th ERM of NRNA concludes successfully: Video Challenge Winners Announced

KATHMANDU, Aug 02: Non-Resident Nepalese Association, NRNA's 11th European Regional Meeting (ERM) has successfully concluded in Luxembourg. The regional meeting which deliberated on various issues including 9th Regional Women Conference was centered on the theme of 'NRN's Europe Commitment: Tourism, Knowledge Transfer and Investment in Nepal' on 29th and 30th July, 2018.

The meeting which was chaired by Shiva Baruwal,  Regional coordinator, NRNA Europe was attended by former Prime Minister of Nepal, Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Foreign Minister Mr. Pradip Gyanwali, former Tourism Minister Hisila Yami , Mr. Bhawan Bhatta,ICC president and other members of parliaments as well. The meeting drew a participation of delegates and representatives of both ICC and NCCs from various countries in the region. Similarly, former presidents of NRNA ICC, incumbent presidents of NCCs and ICC/NCC members of the associations were also present. They took part in various sessions drafting the future course of NRNA focusing especially in the agenda of Nepal's development and prosperity.

Taking part at the program, former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai stressed on the role of NRN's to nation building. He went on to say that the knowledge and expertise gained by those living abroad should be well transferred and government should pave a ground and conducive environment for tourism promotion, investment opportunities and knowledge transfer.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Pradip Gyawali expressed government's commitment to capitalize on the lessons, resources and expertise of NRN fraternity which alone could expedite development in the nation. Also, he pledged to put all necessary effort to facilitate on the issue of citizenship of NRNs that Nepal's Constitution-2072 has guaranteed.  

Mr. Bhawan Bhatta, ICC-President thanked everyone involved in this event and urged them to unite for the cause of development from their level. He also appealed to all present to make a mark from their part which could mean a lot for the prosperity of Nepal.  

Tourism Promotion Nepal Session, convened by Mr. Som Sapkota, Joint-Treasurer, ICC-NRNA and Convener of Tourism Promotion Nepal Sub-Committee of NRNA presented the global activity report highlighting especially on Tourism Promotion Video Challenge-2018 and its mechanism.

According to Mr. Sapkota, out of the eighty-nine videos qualified for the global video challenge ten were selected from the judges on July 27, 2018. Top 3 videos were further selected on the classified adjudication system with judge evaluation (40%), Social Media Popularity (30%), ERM Participants' Voting (20%) and Online Voting (10%).

This has brought out the contestant No. 60 (Ghumante) as the winner of the contest. Similarly, contestant No. 19 which was a unique effort of Mr. Surendra Prajapati stood First Runner Up and video registered as contestant no. 82 collectively by Santosh Basnyat and Nikki Hamal, bagged the position of Second Runner Up. Ghumante, the first position holder has been provided with NRNA Presidential Award with a purse of NRs.1 Lakh by NRNA ICC President Mr. Bhaban Bhatta. The First Runner up has bagged a cash prize of NRs.75,000 sponsored by Turkish Airlines and NRs. 50,000 which is a courtesy of Mr. Gouri Raj Joshi, RC-America is given away to Second Runner Up.

Also, the top ten winners have got an offer of free hotel packages in various places across Nepal. The hotels located across Nepal providing such offers include: 1st winner - Hotel Crown Himalaya, Pokhara, 2nd winner - Rupakot Resort, Pokhara, 3rd winner - Rhino Lodge, Bardia, Contestant No. 42 Forest Hideaway Hotel & Cottages, Bardia, Contestant No. 22 Hotel Jungle Crown - Sauraha, Contestant No. 67 Hotel Shiva's Dream, Sauraha, Contestant No. 11 Hotel Dandelion, Pokhara, Contestant No. 16 Hotel Jungle Safari Lodge, Chitwan, Contestant No. 69 Siddhartha Cottage, Butwal and Contestant No. 41 Hotel Star Banquet, Chitwan.

The organizers have provided the sponsor hotels with certificate of appreciation for their partnership in this cause of tourism promotion. NRNA has also extended sincere thanks with appreciation letter to partners, supporters and all participants of videos challenge.

The event which was organized in partnership with Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has yielded much productive outcomes to promote tourism. Mr.Som Sapkota, the convener of the Tourism Promotion Nepal shares,' The video challenge has given an immense impact and mileage to promotion of Nepalese tourism. In spite of short time, Nepal Tourism Board's official facebook, after video uploads  got 7,56,700 Lakh reach, 20,411 shares and 15,875 likes by 30th July, 2018. With this, NTB'S official page likes increased by 11,731 and 13,076 followers added due to video contest campaign'.

Mr. Deepesh Shakya, coordinator of Experience Nepal Campaign presented a paper highlighting gastronomy tourism and latest initiatives on globalizing Nepali cuisine.

Mr. Bal Krishna Shrestha, co-convener of the tourism promotion mission facilitated one of the sessions of tourism with much insightful blueprint on tourism, that prepares a ground for Nepal Government's slogan of 'Happy Nepalis; Prosperous Nepal.'

Turkish Airlines, Hotel Association Nepal (HAN), Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN), Karnali.com, Regional Hotel Association-Chitwan and sponsor hotels were the major partners of the event. Mr. Hari Bahadur Khatri, Luxembourg-NRNA ICC member became a lucky winner with a two-way free ticket offer by Turkish Airlines' ticket.
