2 lakh tourists entered Nepal till August

KATHMANDU, Sep 14: In the first eight months of this year, only 200,000 tourists have entered Nepal. According to the Immigration Department, 199,903 people visited Nepal from January to August.

Last year, 739,000 tourists had visited Nepal from January to August. Despite the government's decision to celebrate Nepal Tourism Year to attract 2 million tourists, the campaign has been postponed due to the coronavirus. However, tourist arrivals were not as encouraging even before the effect of the coronavirus started.

According to the Department of Immigration, the number of people leaving Nepal is higher than those entering Nepal in the last eight months. During this period, 232,082 foreign nationals have returned home through Tribhuvan International Airport. In the last eight months alone, 358,605 Nepalis have returned home. According to Ramesh Kumar KC, Director General of the Immigration Department, a total of 558,508 Nepalis and foreigners came to Nepal and 541,934 have left.
