200 CCTV cameras installed in Lumbini to strengthen the security

LUMBINI, Oct 14: For the first time, 200 CCTV cameras have been installed in Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, for security purposes. Twenty-five Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) cameras and 175 CCTV cameras have been installed at Lumbini, which is enlisted in World Heritage Sites.

CCTV has been connected under the Procurement of Transmission Backbone and IT Infrastructure Project as per the Lumbini Master Plan. With the installation of CCTV cameras, footage of 275 access points, including sacred gardens, the Bihar area, Shantideep, bus park, information center, museum, administrative building, and Lumbini village will be captured on camera 24 hours a day.

All the connected CCTV cameras can be viewed from the 12 TV screens in the IT control room of the Visual Development Fund's office. Work on optical fiber, surveillance system, data center, wireless network, solar backup, digital signboard, the control room has been completed under the project costing around Rs. 250 million.

After the connection of CCTV, all kinds of activities in the Lumbini Master Plan area will be recorded, so the security system will be strengthened, said Gyanin Rai, Member Secretary of the fund. Rai said that five employees including engineers, security personnel, and Nepal Police have been managed for the operation and management of CCTV cameras. "The installation of CCTV cameras will go a long way in ensuring the safety of tourists visiting Lumbini and the overall peace and security in the Lumbini Master Plan area," Rai said.

Two hundred security personnel, including Armed Police Force, Nepal Police, security personnel of the Lumbini Development Fund, and private sector Bir Gorkha Security Company, have been deployed in Lumbini. Despite the deployment of so many security personnel, there have been incidents of theft of Mayadevi temple, due to a lack of coordination. Due to this, the security arrangements of Lumbini have been questioned from time to time.

After the connection of CCTV, there will be no problem in the security system, said Diwakar Gautam, Information Technology Engineer of the fund. "After the installation of 200 CCTV cameras, including PTZ, all 24-hour activities are now captured on camera," said Engineer Gautam. "If there is any disturbance in peace and security or case of any illegal activity, the nearest security unit and staff are immediately notified from the control room."
