KATHMANDU, My 30: The number of Myanmar tourists to Nepal is on the increase, reaching up to 26, 200 visiting Lumbini and other places within the last 8 months.

The Nepalese Ambassador stresses the increase of Myanmar tourists to Nepal at the Nepal Tourism Promotion Event 2018 named “Naturally Nepal: Beyond Lumbini” on Tuesday.

Normally, 10,000 to 12,000 Myanmar tourists visit Nepal a year.

Not only Lumbini, the birthplace of the Lord Buddha, but also other places for mountaineering, trekking, hiking, rafting, mountain biking and bird-watching attract the Myanmar tourists.

Ambassador, Nepal Embassy in Myanmar, H.E. Bhim K. Udas said “The main purpose of this event is to introduce Nepal and Lumbini, and then attract more and more Myanmar tourists going to Nepal. We are trying to focus Naturally Nepal and beyond Lumbini which means apart from Lumbini there are many attractive destinations where Myanmar tourist might be interested to go and enjoy… the people who to know about the culture of Nepal, those types of tourists can go and then enjoy their time in Nepal.”

As there are 14 to 15 domestic flights from Kathmandu to Lumbini, those who want to visit can go there within a day, the Ambassador suggested.

Himalaya Airlines launched a direct flight between Kathmandu and Yangon in 2017 February but it stopped due to the low number of passengers.

Buddha international airport of Lumbini is expected to be completed by the end of next year. MITV
