276 Thousand tourists visited Lumbini in past two months

KATHMANDU, Mar 09: A total of 276 thousand 620 tourists visited Lumbini in the birth of Gautam Buddha within two months. According to the Lumbini Development Fund, 276 thousand 620 tourists visited Lumbini in January and February of 2018. Similarly, in January and February 2017, a total of 373 thousand six hundred tourists visited Lumbini. In the previous year, there was a decline in the number of tourists in around 97,000.

Rajan Basnet, Information Officer of Lumbini Development Fund, said, "In January and February of 2018, around 223,016 domestic tourists, 24,095 Indians and 29,509 tourists from the other countries visited Lumbini. Whereas in 2017 during that period, around 312,710 domestic tourists visited Lumbini."

In January 2018, around 9,714 and in Feburary 19,795 tourists from other countries visited Lumbini. This statistics is around 2,500 less as compared to the previous year. This year most of the tourists visiting Lumbini are from Thailand. Within these two months, 7,928 tourists from Thailand, 6,689 from Myanmar, 2,821 from China, 1,406 from Korea and 5,733 from Sri Lanka visited Lumbini.

Most of the tourists visiting Lumbini arrive here from the boarder. Achyut Guragain, Senior Vice President of the Nepal Tour and Travels Association (NATTA), said that in spite of being the main destination we are unable to extend their period of stay due to which we are not able to gain profit.
