7 airports to be added in 2018

KTHMANDU, Jan 18: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) is working on adding 7 new airports in the country within this economic year. Additionally, it is also working to upgrade various airports around the country.

According to CAAN, the runways of 6 airports have been black-topped in 2017. The number of domestic airports that have black-topped runways have reached 29. However, most of these airports are rarely used and often see only charter flights. The airports that were black-topped in the economic year 2073/74 are Manmaya Rai Airport (Bhojpur), Suketar Airport (Taplejung), Chaurjahari Airport (Rukum), Dolpa Airport, and Rara Airport (Mugu).

The Director-General of CAAN, Sanjiv Gautam, said that works to upgrade, improve air security and develop infrastructure are taking place in airports around the country. The runways of Lamidada Airport (Khotang), Thamkhirk Airport (Khotang), Rajbiraj Airport (Itahari), Doti Airport, Patan Airport (Baitadi), and Sanfebagar Airport (Achham) are being blacktopped in the current economic year.
