Annapurna Day observed with promotion of home stay at Mohoriya

POKHARA, June 3: The 67 the anniversary of the first ascent of Mt. Annapurna, the day known as the Annapurna Expedition Day was observed here Saturday.
This year, Mohoriya village based in Dangsingh of Annapurna Rural Municipality was chosen as the site of focus to promote tourism activities particularly homestay on the occasion of the Annapurna Day that commemorates the first ascent of Mt. Annapurna by French climber Maurice Herzog on June 3, 1950.
The Annapurna Day celebration was hosted by Trekking Association of Nepal (TAAN) western regional association and was promoted and supported by Nepal Tourism Board and Annapurna Area Conservation Project, according to TAAN western regional chairman Deepak Raj Adhikari.
Newly elected chief of Annapurna Rural Municipality said Mohoriya had abundant possibility of becoming a tourism destination and expansion of trekking routes and promotion of homestay programmes would help uplift the entire village from the economic point of view.
Programme coordinator Shyam Krishna Thapa, TAAN central secretary Mukti Pandey, ACAP officer Rashmi Acharya and TAAN regional association second vice-chairperson Bishwaraj Adhikari insisted on the need of encouraging homestay activities at Mohoriya to promote the local tourism.
