Annapurna marathon to promote tourism

POKHARA, June 4: A high-altitude marathon along the popular Annapurna Circuit Trekking Route of Nepal was held on Sunday to promote tourism of the region.

The first edition of the marathon started from the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), located at an altitude of nearly 4,200 meters while ended up in a popular village Ghandruk.
ABC is regarded as one of the best trekking routes in the world, while it is the most sought trekking trail in the Himalayan nation after the Qomolangma base camp.
Around 65 people including athletes from Nepal Army participated in the high-altitude marathon organized under Annapurna Sanctuary Tourism Festival. The full marathon route included ABC, Machhapuchhre Base Camp, Deurali, Dobhan, Sinuwa, Chhomrong and ended in Ghandruk, a settlement of ethnic Gurung community
