Annapurna Village Municipality collects tax in Annapurna Trekking region

POKHARA, July 17: Annapurna Village Municipality has started to collect tax from the hotels of the region as per the rights granted by the constitution. More than 26 hotels of Annapurna region are constructed in public area. 30 thousand rupees will be collected from these hotels every year whereas 5 thousand rupees is collected from those hotels build in private areas, starting from this fiscal year.
Listed among the world's best trekking routes, every year more than 28 thousand tourists arrive here and this year, the number has increased to 32 thousand said Lalit Gurung, the organizer of Annapurna Sanctuary Tourism Festival 2018. After the festival, there has been an increase in tourists, he said, and in the end of the year 40 thousand tourists is estimated. Likewise Annapurna Marathon has also played great role in the promotion of tourism in Annapurna Base Camp and next year it will be organized again.
The village municipality is planning to celebrate 2020 as tourism year and hotels and restaurants have also been added to make tourism accessible. Annapurna region was conserved by Annapurna Region Conservation Plan (ACAP) since 2043 B.S. The amount of money collected from the tax will be invested in adding the hotels and conserving the Annapurna region.
