CAAN denies AOC to new domestic airlines

KATHMANDU, Feb 27: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has been granting permission to international companies for flight but have stopped domestic companies. Until the development of infrastructure is completed, CAAN told the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation that there might be difficulty to grant permission for flights to the new airline companies. However, soon after Kuwait Bataniya Airlines and India’s Go Air were granted permission for flight.
The Authority has decided to stop granting AOC to new companies until infrastructure is developed in Bhairahawa International Airport. The authority said that Tribhuwan International Airport is too narrow for adequate parking and other infrastructures so process has been started to stop AOC. Despite this, Himalayan Airlines and even Nepal Airlines is in the process of buying two widebody airplanes respectively. According to the Authority, it will not be able to provide AOC to new airlines companies with the exisiting 9 parking bays.
