KATHMANDU, Aug 05: Chitwan National Park is sending a second pair of rhinos as gifts to the Chinese government this month. Chief Conservation Officer, Bed Kumar Dhakal, said that preparations are ongoing to second the rhinos on August 16. The Chinese government is making arrangements to transport the rhinos and procuring airport permissions.

Before this, another pair of rhinos was sent to China on July 12 as a gift. The rhinos are currently being held at the National Nature Conservation Fund premises. Park officials said that as the rhinos have been habituated to human proximity, there should be no problem in transporting them.

The rhinos will be accompanied with a team of physicians, technical personnel and helpers. The gifts are a fulfillment of a promise made by PM K.P. Oli on a visit to China two years ago. Including the pair that was gifted in June, the total number of rhinos that Nepal has gifted to different foreign countries has reached 30.
