College Chef Icon 2018 to begin on June 2

KATHMANDU, May 08: The College Chef Icon 2018 is starting on June 2 under the organization of Sneha Travels Media and Nepal Unique Talent, in collaboration with the Nepal Tourism and Hotel Management Foundation.

The televised contest will be a culinary contest for Nepali students of the Bachelor in Hotel Management and Diploma in Hotel Management. The auditions for the program will take place on May 29 and broadcasted on Nepal Television, while the program will begin in June 2, broadcasted every Saturday from 3:05 pm to 3:55 pm.

The competition will have 5 different categories of foods under which the contestants will be tested. They are: Nepali Heritage food, Traditional food, Continental and Italian food, Indian food, and Chinese food.  The winner in the College Chef Icon 2018 will be awarded with Rs. 50,000 and a kitchen set prize. Second-place and third-place winners will be awarded with Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 15,000 respectively, besides a kitchen set as well.

The program is being organized with the aim of promoting Nepali cuisine in the culinary market. The competition is also hoped to help chefs in the Nepali food industry develop their skills to the international level, organizers said.

There will be 7 judges in the competition composed of veteran chefs in the Nepali food industry. They are Suresh Chandra Basnet, Surya Kiran Shrestha, Shriram Adhikari, Laxman Prasad Bhandari, Dr. Sanjay Sammal, Yuvraj Pokhrel, and Krishna Kaji Basnet.
