KATHMANDU, July 04: Nepali airline companies have been found charging foreign tourists 3 times more than Nepali citizens in air ticket rates. While charging foreign tourists in dollar currency, they have been found to charge three times more than the rates given to Nepali citizens.

Tourism entrepreneurs say that while a one-way ticket from Kathmandu to Lukla typically costs Nepali people Rs. 6000, the same trip costs foreign nationals as much as $180, which amounts to more than Rs. 18,000. Similarly, tickets to Pokhara typically cost the Nepali anywhere from Rs. 2500 - Rs. 5000, while the same costs the foreign national between Rs. 9000 - Rs. 13,700.

This practice by Nepali airline companies could send a potentially negative message about the country to foreign tourists. Tourism entrepreneurs say that such a practice could be harmful to tourism promotion for Nepal and create an environment where a first-time visitor might not return for a second time.
