Experts concerned for cleanliness of Sagarmatha

KATHMANDU, July 25: Shakti Bahadur Basnet, Minister of Forest and Environment has assured to make the Everest region clean. In VITOF Election Discussion and Sagarmatha Cleanliness Campaign program organized by National Tourism Journalists' Association, Minister Basnet said that the government has made the rule that the visitor’s ascending Sagarmatha must carry 8kg of waste materials while returning back, if this policy is maintained it will play great role in cleaning the Sagarmatha.

We must be able to express our demands in international forum regarding the environmental effects on Sagarmatha caused by global warming, he added. Likewise, Former Minister Tek Bahadur Basnet said that they have made plans and policies for the development of mountaineering tourism and soon he will be organizing cleanliness campaign in Sagarmatha with other entrepreneurs. Kamal Sapkota, President of VITOF said that the waste materials brought by the climbers should be managed by themselves.

Similarly, Former President of Nepal Mountaineering Association, Ang Tsering Sherpa said that he has been involved in the cleanliness campaign since 10 years. He said that we must not give negative information about Sagarmatha in international platform.
