Finance Minister Janardan Sharma announces to implement MDMS system immediately

KATHMANDU, Dec 01: Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has announced that the mobile device management system MDMS will be implemented immediately. Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the Second National General Convention of the Nepal Mobile Distributors Association, Finance Minister Sharma announced that MDMS would be implemented immediately to curb the illegal import of mobile phones from different countries.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, "I came to know about MDMS only yesterday to manage the issue of illegal import of mobile phones. I have already given instructions to implement it immediately. 'He said that it was difficult to stop the mobile phones being brought by thousands of people daily from abroad legally.

 "We are running the economy with remittances," he said. It is unjust not to allow those who return to Nepal to bring a single phone. Admitting that 25 to 30 percent of mobile phones are being imported and sold illegally from different countries, Minister Sharma said that the government is committed to manage it.

He said that mobile has gone beyond the capabilities of human beings, adding that along with technology, human capacity also needs to be increased. He said, ‘Mobile phones have made it easier for us to meet our needs. It includes connectivity, communication, entertainment, information. It has become an essential commodity. That is why the government cannot tighten the noose on mobile phones. '

Speaking on the occasion, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Shekhar Golchha said that stopping the illegal import of mobile phones would be of great help to the economy. Also, Speaking on the occasion, businessman Deepak Malhotra said that implementation of MDMS was a prerequisite for managing mobile business. He said, "We are confident that MDMS will be implemented as it is included in the budget document of the current fiscal year." 

Speaking on the occasion, DIG CP Gajurel of the Armed Police Security Force said that the organization was ready to stop illegal smuggling in the border area.
