Flights to and from Bharatpur affected owing to fog

CHITWAN, Jan 08 : The normal life in Chitwan district has been affected due to chilling cold.

The temperature in the district has dipped up to 7 degree Celsius.

Likewise, entire flights to and from Bharatpur airport were cancelled on Saturday while the flights were also affected till late afternoon Sunday because of poor visibility after the thick fog, chief of Bharatpur Airport Pawan Kumar Gautam said.

Buddha Air, Yeti Airlines and Simrik Air have been operating Kathmandu-Bharatpur flights while Buddha Air has flights to and from Pokhara to Bharatpur.

Gautam said that the horizontal visibility was from 1,500 meters while the vertical visibility was from 300 metres against the minimum requirement of 2,500 metres and 450 metres.

Around 500 passengers take air services from Bharatpur Airport.

Meanwhile, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' could not leave for Kathmandu as the flights were cancelled on Saturday, Prachanda's press coordinator Manahari Timilsina said.
