Foundation stone laid for 108-feet Lord Shiva's statue

NAGARKOT, July 29: The foundation stone for the construction of 108-feet statue of Lord Shiva has been laid at the place adjacent to Changu Narayan Municipality-8 in Bhaktapur district and Banepa Municipality-1 in Kavrepalanchowk district.

Nepali Congress (NC) leader Prakash Man Singh and Shiva Tantric Buddhi Kumar Khadgi jointly laid the foundation stone, marking the 'Naag Panchami' Day Friday.

The construction cost of the statue to be built on a 82-ropani is estimated to be Rs 210 million, according to the Kalamasi Kalpeshower Mahadev and Kalika Devi Temple Conservation Society.

The fund collected by Shiva Tantric Khadgi will be supplemented by the local's donations for the same.

On the occasion, NC leader Singh underscored local community's participation for the development of the localities.

Present at the programme were parliamentarians Kanchan Chandra Bade and Ram Prasad Dungel, former State Minister for Health Taraman Gurung and newly elected Chief of Changu Narayan Municipality ward no 8, Parasar Sapkota and Banepa Municipality ward no 1 Chief Pitambar Dulal.

They viewed that the construction of the statue relating to one of the supreme divinity in Hinduism, Lord Shiva, would help promote religious tourism in the locality.
