The capacity of hotels was increased to accommodate the increasing number of domestic and foreign tourists entering the Myagdi area, in which Ghorepani is a chief tourist destination.
Business-owners have demolished older buildings of inferior materials and constructed modern concrete buildings. Two new hotels have been established in the area in the last five years, while four have increased their capacity, said the Vice-President of Ghorepani Hotels Organization Subcommittee, Sushil Pun.
Two hotels are currently undergoing renovations to increase their capacity. Currently, the 23 hotels situated in Ghorepani can accommodate 800 to 900 people per day. “The number of hotels has stayed the same, only the capacity has increased,” said Pun. Earlier, the daily capacity of the hotels was at 600 people.
With the increase in hotel capacity, visitors have no more issues while looking for lodging. Some years back, the hotels in Ghorepani used to face much crowding and tourists were forced to travel to nearby places to find lodging. Owners of the older hotels have replaced the older building with concrete structures.
Each hotel can host more than 50 people at a time. The hotels possess many of features of urban areas, including high-speed internet. Each hotel was constructed at a cost of 2 to 3 million rupees, according to hotel-owners.
The cost of construction of hotels is high due to lack of proper transportation, said the owner of Peace Excellent Hotel, Chandra Bahadur Buddhaja, due to which the necessary materials have to be brought by porters and hand-carts.
