Government preparing for grand International Buddhist Conference on occasion of Buddha Jayanti

KATHMANDU, Apr 13: The government has reached final phase of preparations for the 2562nd Buddha Jayanti. An international conference is set to take place on the day, with Buddhism experts from 23 countries and ministers of culture and religious affairs of 15 countries taking part.
This is the second international Buddhist conference that Nepal is hosting on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti. The event is taking place in Lumbini, with the Minister of Culture Rabindra Adhikari expressing the belief that it will help connect the international Buddhist community and the Buddhist faith to Lumbini more strongly.
The conference is being held with the slogan "Lumbini, Nepal: The Birth Place of Lord Buddha and the Fountain of Buddhism and World Peace". It will take place over 3 days from April 28-30.
Speaking in a press conference on Thursday, the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari has promised to conclude the various incomplete works under the Lumbini Development Masterplan formed in 1978 within 2 years. He said that he is working to establish Lumbini as a Buddhism study center, and a region for religious tourism.
Vice-President of the Lumbini Development Fund, Bhikshu Metteya, said that the Buddha Jayanti and International Buddhist Conference will be successful in attracting Buddhists from all over the world to Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha.
A 562 member chief committee has been formed for the International Buddhist Conference. The conference will also have the presence of renowned experts in the field of Buddhist faith, philosophy, culture, and heritage, who will be presenting 13 papers on the subject.
