Government to meet target of 1 million tourists

KATHMANDU, July 19: The government had planned to bring in 1 million tourists in 2011 but the plan is going to be successful after 7 years of its proposal. If the ratio of tourists increases in the same way for next 6 month in 2018 we can meet the target of 1 million of tourists this year.

According to the Department of Immigration, 520,014 tourists have visited Nepal till June. Previously, in 2017 only 460,200 tourists visited Nepal. In 2018, since January most of the tourists visiting Nepal are from India. Around 93,300 Indian tourists have visited Nepal.[/caption]

In 2017, most of the tourists were from foreign countries. Last year around 940,000 foreign tourists visited Nepal. If the ratio of the number of tourists inĀ  first 6 month continues the same in another 6 month we can meet the target of 1 million tourists. The government has planned to target for 2 million tourists in 2020.
