KATHMANDU, June 7 : The Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal has opposed the proposed merger of different academies on the grounds it will scupper Nepali handicraft sector's development.
Federation's Director General Dr Govinda Prasad Regmi on Wednesday issued a statement expressing his grievance towards the effort on part of Nepal Government to merge Nepal Academy, Nepal Academy of Fine Arts and Nepal Academy of Music and Drama to form a single academy.
"Nepal Academy, Nepal Academy of Fine Arts and Nepal Academy of Music and Drama have their separate importance, they have preserved Nepal's art and culture, if they are merged together, Nepal's handicraft sector's development will not happen," it is stated.
