Himalayan Travel Mart 2018 paves the foundation for 5 million visitors

KATHMANDU, June 3: The Second Edition of Himalayan Travel Mart (HTM) concluded successfully today in Kathmandu witnessing the participation of around 59 Buyers from 26 Countries, and 52 Sellers from 7 different countries including Nepal, India, Bhutan, South Korea, Indonesia, Turkey and UAE.
The three day event is the biggest travel show that incorporated the entire gamut of tourism industry of Nepal and South Asia at large. This event was organized by Nepal Tourism Board, hosted by Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, the Government of Nepal and PATA Nepal Chapter was its Event organizer.
The Himalayan Travel Mart Conference was held on 1st of June at the Soaltee Crowne Plaza, under the theme ‘The Sustainable Road to Five Million Visitors by 2030’ where travel industries dignitaries and experts, shared their knowledge and experiences on the topic “Himalayan Tourism and Innovation & Marketing”, which was of international standard that would benefit industry professionals here in Nepal.
likewise ‘International Travel Bloggers and Media Conference (ITBMC) where bloggers from across the world discussed various burning issues in the tourism industry including elephant ride in the jungle safari. The ITBMC, hosted 43 International Bloggers and Media Personnel from 18 countries and the highlight being 5 Internationally acclaimed Bloggers and Media Persons, who spoke on the importance of media and blogging, in promoting tourist destinations like Nepal.
The Hon’ble Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Pradeep Gyanwali inaugurated the ITBMC underlying the importance of social media and new media in promoting tourism and mitigating the wrong image of a destination.
Hon’ble Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Mr. Rabindra Adhikari inaugurated the Himalayan Travel Mart amidst a grand function saying that Nepal needs international support for tourism promotion.
Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of Nepal Tourism Board, Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi, in his address spoke about Nepal being a hub of Himalayan destinations and a leader in adventure destination.
While, the Chairman of PATA Nepal Chapter, Mr. Sunil Sakya welcomed the guests and thanked them for accepting and embracing the spirit of PATA by connecting with hospitality people from different backgrounds and emphasized on the necessity for concretizing the envisaged Himalayan Travel Mart with the theme “Nepal, the Gateway to the Himalayas” by giving continuity to the event on an annual basis for the years ahead.
The major highlights of the event were Chairman of China Investment Forum Dr. Marcus Lee’s thought-provoking deliberation on China market, Bollywood’s famous Director Madhur Bhandarkar’s insight on correlating Cinema and tourism, Ms. Emily Yates’s experience on accessible tourism and President of International Blogger Association Mr. Matt Gibson’s speech on promoting Nepal Internationally online.
Mr. Chris Bottrill, the Chairman of PATA International, in his deliberation, spoke on Human Capital Development needs and opportunities in Asia.
Mr. Krishna Prasad Devkota, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation thanked entire tourism industry of Nepal for putting their effort in making this event successful.
The Official Airline Partner of the Himalayan Travel Mart was Nepal Airlines and the Official Hotel Partner was Soaltee Crowne Plaza. Turkish Airlines was the official partner for International Travel Bloggers and Media Conference.
With the successful conclusion of the Himalayan Travel Mart 2018, Nepal has now emerged as one of the best destinations for Meetings, Incentives, Conference and Exhibition (MICE) Tourism in South Asia. The participants were of opinion that the Himalayan Travel Mart ignited the interest of buyers to sell Nepal and other Himalayan destinations.
