KATHMANDU, Mar 26: IMS Group has purchased the long-closed Hotel Shahanshah Kathmandu. The group, which had previously been involved in real estate, auto business, and precious metals, has moved to the hotel business with this move.
President of IMS Group, Deepak Malhotra said that the hotel has been purchased and the construction work is being taken forward with a new design. "Currently we are working on redesign and decorations," he said, "the hotel will come in operation within a year." The new designs will cost an additional 4 million rupees.
The group is planning to add rooms and more facilities in the hotel. The hotel will give priority to the health club, and introduce yearly membership models to promote the club. The hotel currently has 19 rooms, which will be increased to 40. Malhotra also informed that a five-star level banquet hall will be constructed. "We will turn the existing tennis hall into a banquet hall," said Malhotra, "the hall will have modern design and provide five-star level service."
All the services provided by the hotel will be of five-star level, but IMS Group will not pursue five-star certification for now. The hotel is constructed over an area of 16 ropanis. The existing parking area will also be expanded to accommodate at least 150 cars.
