Int'l Marathon begins from Jiri

CHARIKOT, Nov 9 : This year's Everest Trail Race International Marathon began on Thursday from Jiri of Dolakha district.
Mayor of Jiri Tanka Jirel and Narayan Bhattarai of Department of Nepal Tourism marked the inauguration of the 7th Everest Trail Race Marathon Competition.
A total of 41 runners including nine women from 13 different countries are taking part in the tournament.
Spain tops the number of participants with 14 while nine are from the UK, four from Italy and two each from Nepal, Portugal and Ireland. Likewise, the participants are from Mexico, Colombia, France, USA, Canada, Sweden, Norway and Argentina.
Starting from Jiri to Bamti Bhandar in Ramechhap and Goli to Pikedanda and to Namche to Pawangboche and Phorche and then again Tangboche of Lukla in Solukhumbu, the runners shall complete the marathon on 15 November.
Managing Director of Annapurna Treks and Expedition Kami Sherpa said that the winner of the race shall bag Rs 150,000 in cash while the first runner up and third runner up will receive Rs 100,000 and Rs 50,000, respectively.
