JANAKPUR, August 05: Maithili litterateurs Roshan Janakpuri and Parameshwor Kapadi have been honoured with 'Dr Dhirendra Literature Award' and 'Salahes Culture Award, 2073' respectively for their contribution to Maithili language.

Established by the Maithili Development Fund (MDF) Janakpurdham, the awards are provided every year and each of them carries a cash prize of Rs 51,000.

Chancellor of the Nepal Academy of Music and Drama Bhakta Shrestha (Sarubhakta) handed the awards and letters of appreciation amid a programme here on Saturday.

At the event, both the award receivers thanked the MDF for choosing them for the awards. They also viewed that failure of Maithili language litterateurs and crusaders to pay much attention to the development of the language is a matter of concern.

Likewise, Chancellor Shrestha stressed the need for the collective development of Maithili language, literature and culture. Academic member Ramesh Ranjan Jha, culture expert Rewati Raman Lal, the MDF Chairperson Jibanath Chaudhary and Secretary Shyam Sundar Shashi and former lawmaker Mahendra Kumar Mishra among others also attended the programme.
