KATHMANDU Mar 16: Kapdane Pond, situated in the Sankhuwasabha Village Municipality is degrading due to lack of conservation and the pollution is rapidly decreasing its area. This pond is a tourist attraction spot and has historic importance.

According to local Sunnabuti Sherpa, no one goes near the Pond due to the fear of being buried in the wetlands around the lake which has turned into a quicksand.

Conservation departments have paid little attention to the conservation of the pond which has a lot of tourism potential. Local Dinesh Gurung thinks that the village municipality should organize programs for the pond’s conservation and promotion because though the pond holds the historic importance of the ancestors, the new generation is neglecting the pond’s conservation.

Environmentalist Tirtha Bahadur Shrestha says that many species of birds from outside Nepal reside in the forests around the lake and many festivals are held in the temple near the lake, giving the lake both an environmental and cultural calue.

Makalu Varun National Park is situated near the pond so one can see many wild animals and birds as well as beautiful sights like the Makalu mountain and Mitsyapokhari from the area so it is very essential to conserve the lake premises.
