Kathmandu to get “New” Living Goddess “Kumari” this week

KATHMANDU, Sep 25 : Nepal’s Capital Kathmandu will be getting its new Living goddess “Kumari” this week. In the occasion of Dashain Kumari is set to be changed after 9 years.

The sitting living goddess Kumari having name Matina Shakya has stepped to 12 years in age and she will be replaced on the 8th day of Dashain known as “Maha Astami”. She is the first Kumari of Kathmandu after Nepal was announced a Republic Nation.

There is a tradition of changing Kumari after she reach 12 years,” Gautam Shakya, representative from Kathmandu Kumari Ghar said further adding “It is the normal age from when their menstruation period starts.”

Matina became Kumari when she was 3 years old and will be bided farewell with state honor and the selection of New Kumari has already been accomplished.
