KATHMANDU, Mar 233: The Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Rabindra Adhikari, is giving first priority to the expansion of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).
He plans to extend TIA’s capacity within 4 to 5 years before the construction of Nijgadh International Airport is completed.
Minister Adhikari has prioritized Nijgadh International Airport amongst the new airports project. The problem of Bhairahawa Airport will resolve soon. The home minister has decided to invest the money themselves to save time in discussions with the bank and the construction company as Asian Development Bank (ADB) is denying to grant loan due to unsatisfactory work.
The ministry is planning to make another domestic airport for decreasing the air traffic congestion, which will be used to conduct the mountains flights. It is impossible to construct two runways in TIA because there should be 1 km gap between two runways and there is insufficient land in the area. The other plan is to reduce delay in landing and take-off where the aircraft have to wait 20 minutes for landing.
The management team of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has also promised to bring its grounded Chinese aircraft in operation within 10 days to the Minister of Tourism Rabindra Adhikari on Monday.
