KATHMANDU, Apr 12: The Nepal Association of Rafting Agencies (NARA) has organized an interaction program on the topic "Adventure Water Tourism: Present and Future", attended by Ex-Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN (Maoist), Pushpa Kamal Dahal, and other personalities.

Pushpa Kamal Dahal has referred to tourism as the way to Nepal's economic prosperity. Dahal said that among the various categories of tourism, the role of water tourism will be important in the development of Nepal.

Dahal also said that since Nepal's neighboring countries have large populations, Nepal has a great potential for tourism. "Tourism is the chief medium for Nepal's long-term economic development," he said, "for this, we have to assess the potential in every river and lake of Nepal and to develop plans accordingly. It is important to develop plans keeping the rivers of Nepal as a priority, because they have a strong potential for attracting tourists."

The program also had the attendance of youth leader and parliament member Gagan Thapa, who said that tourism is a more valuable sector for Nepal's economic development than agriculture or industry, and that the government must make plans accordingly.

NARA General Secretary Shiva Adhikari said that the program was organized with the aim of raising awareness about the need for preservation of Nepal's water resources, and to discuss the scope of water tourism in Nepal's future. NARA is a strong advocate of the preservation of Nepal's water resources, including its rivers and lakes.
