Nepal army to construct external infrastructures of Nijhgadh Int'l Airport

KATHMANDU, Jan 21 : The government has decided to assign the Nepal Army to construct the external infrastructures of Nijhgadh International Airport. Though the feasibility study report of the Airport is completed the government has not received the study report till the date.
"The government has decided to assign the Nepal Army to do the preparatory work on the Nijhgadh International Airport project," Suresh Acharya, joint secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation said.
The Nepal Army will build an access road to the runway and perimeter road and clear trees at the construction site and other necessary infrastructure, officials of the ministry said.
"Apart from technical development of airport other infrastructure development assign to Nepal army which will help government to carry out this project quickly," Acharya added.
“However, the rest of the construction work will be carried out by the government itself,” Acharya told the parliamentary Development Committee on Thursday.
The airport to be built at Dumarwana in Bara district will be spread over 80 square kilometers, 90 percent of which is covered by forest.
