Nepal completes rejuvenation of Malla Era Temple- the Changunarayan

KATHMANDU, 12 Oct: The renovation of Changunarayan temple located in Bhaktapur has been completed. The work of the renovation of the temple enlisted in the world heritage was started one and a half years ago.

Engineer, Sampat Ghimire from the archaeological Division informed that renovation of the temple led to the same old state. The rejuvenation work of the temple is done under the Bhaktapur’s memorial protection and office care under Archaeological Department.

A total of 9.4 million rupees was given contract for renovation. In the report prepared after the earthquake, it was mentioned that the upper part of the temple was lowered down by 8 inches.

Similarly, the upper part of the wall was out by 3 inches. Ghimire said that retrofitting was done for the renovation of the temple without distorting the historical structure. "Now all the work of the temple has been completed and the renovation of the temple has been resorted to its reign," Ghimire said.

The temple which was more damaged was renovated by destroying the upper roof. The first prototype inside the temple, archaeological items in the first floor of the womb was removed and renovated. Director General of the Department, Bhes Narayan Dahal, told that the statue of archaeological goddess, goddess, arms, jewelry, and items stored in the place in the temporary building, were kept at the temple.

Some archaeological materials in the temple were locally stored in Hanuman Dhoka. Heritage and Environmental Conservation Foundation Nepal has rebuilt the temple premises, Kileshwar Mahadev Temple and given the in charge to the department.

Director General Dahal said that the preparations for the reconstruction of various old heritages of Chununarayan complex were ready to be given to various foreign donor bodies but yet not decided clearly.

Chaudhera Sattal, Amatya Sattal, Pujari House, Shiva Temple, Laxminarayan Temple with other temples are also required to rebuild.The construction of Bungamati-based Manakamana temple of Lalitpur along with Chununarayan has also been constructed.

The department has claimed speed of the construction of the ancient heritage is high in the later time. However, Kasthamandap, Rani Pokhari, Dharahara and other important assets have been taken for the construction of Kathmandu Metropolitan Municipality.
