Nepal Mountaineering Academy gets affiliation from TU

KATHMANDU, Feb-7: For the first time in world Nepal Mountaineering Academy of Nepal has got the affiliation to start the mountaineering study as a subject.

The academy which was waiting for affiliation succeeded as Tribhuwan University green signaled for the proposal. Now the Academy is set to call for the admission in Bachelor’s level, anyone who is interested in learning the Mountaineering and has completed the Intermediate level can apply for admission.

“We have completed the preparations to formally start the course. The academic course is also ready to go. We are planning to call for admission between the month of May and June,” Lakhuti Sherpa, Executive Director of Nepal Mountaineering Academy told Tourismmail.

“This course of study will help to promote the tourism sector of Nepal too as well as it will help in disseminating knowledge about the mountains which are not explored yet,” she added.

Apart from Nepali students foreign nationals also can join the course. The Academy has separate fee structure for the nationals from SAARC member countries and others. The academy ha fixed the fee for Nepali Nationals to 6 Lakhs but the fee might be slightly high for foreigners, an official inside the academy said.

“Nepal is full of mountain this is our pride and we have responsibilities to promote them. We should introduce new practices in mountain to promote them,” she said. In the introductory phase the Academy has planned to start the course in capital Kathmandu then is planning to shift to Solukhumbu.

The academy is constructing it’s infrastructure in Solukhumbu to shift the academy. Meanwhile, the academy has planned to take the students to Solukhumbu district for practical for the time duration of 6 months after completing the 6 months theoretical course in capital.
