Nepal Opens Gates to New Tourism Pathways in ITB China 2018

KATHMANDU, May 19: ITB China’s 2nd edition officially kicked off in inimitable style through 16 – 18 May 2018 in Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center, Pudong, Shanghai. Nepal Tourism Board made a visible participation with 4 prominent private sector tourism companies.

China’s 3-day B2B travel trade show showed significant growth after its premier last year. With an expected attendee number of 15,000 this year, an increase compared to 10,000 last year -more than 700 exhibitors from 80 countries and around 800 buyers made their presence at the show this time.

Nepal stall stirred interest to create business bases for Chinese outbound to the Himalayan country. The country has started to fascinate Chinese travelers searching for unique experiences in destinations they visit and are more willing to spend money to gain unique local experiences. Customized travel is becoming a new form of outbound tourism for Chinese travelers especially given the large number of middle to high-end customers with increase in their spending power. Visiting tour operators to Nepal pavilion mainly had concern on availability of Chinese speaking guides, Chinese restaurants, condition of roads, availability of local transports and visa procedures.

The Everest Base Camp Trek won the award for Amazing Travelling Experiences – “It’s My World Travel Award 2018” which was possible only because of the vote of 4,78,539 Chinese travelers, enchanted by Nepal within past one month.

Nepal is slowly gaining prominence among the Chinese visitors as good value for money destination because of short flight span, increased air connectivity and diverse tourism products.
