Annapurna Marathon will hold its third edition in May

GANDAKI, March 26 :The Century Tourism Committee will host the Annapurna Marathon in May. The Marathon will be held for the third time, covering a distance of 142.195 kilometers from Annapurna Base Camp to Ghandruk.

Lalit Gurung, Chairman of the Committee, stated that two editions had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tourism festivals and the Annapurna Marathon were previously held on a regular basis to promote tourism at Annapurna base camp. Although last year's program was postponed due to unfavorable circumstances, Mikas Gurung, secretary of the committee, stated that it will be held as planned this year.

On 27th of February, 2019 (Falgun 15, 2075), hotels in Annapurna base camp were severely damaged by an avalanche. The tragic incident at Hinku Cave on the Annapurna circuit trekking route, as well as the global COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown, had a significant impact on the area's tourism business.

Meanwhile, the committee has urged the local, provincial, and federal governments to help the economy by implementing a special relief package program to keep the tourism industry from collapsing.
