TAAN urges to National Trust for Nature Conservation to organize mountain tourism

KATHMANDU, May 18: The Nepal Trekking Agencies Association (TAAN) has urged that the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) improve the competitiveness, safety, and sustainability of mountain tourism.

According to TAAN's first vice president, Pradip Pandit, amid the current climate of mountain tourism's problems and prospects, TAAN has asked to administer the trust's protected areas.

According to him, the fund has been sought to give required support, coordination, and initiative because he wants to work in coordination, partnership, and cooperation with the trust to make trekking tourism more safe, competitive, and sustainable.

He stated that, despite the fact that the FIT TIMS for visitors has been closed, the trust continues to give permits to FIT tourists, causing a difficulty, therefore he has brought the trust's attention to the creation of numerous hiking routes.

TAAN has asked for help in establishing alternate trekking routes on the Round Annapurna route, identifying alternate routes and developing the upper Mustang circuit, and boosting the number of tea house lodges and restaurants along the Annapurna base camp route.

Similarly, it has requested, in accordance with the new criteria, to assist in the building of TIMS check points under the Manaslu, Annapurna, and Gaurishankar conservation area project, as well as to coordinate the job of reviewing trekkers' Teams permits at those checkpoints.

Similarly, tourists going on the Manaslu-Larke Pass trekking circuit have to pay entry fees for both the Manaslu Conservation Area and the Annapurna Conservation Area Project while going on the Bhimtab-Dharapani-Jagat section.

The First Vice President Pandit stated that because of this limitation, the number of visitors travelling through Manaslu-Larke could not rise significantly, so he suggested that this rule be made practical and an environment created to attract more tourists be created.
