Govt appointed 77 liaison officers for mountain climbing management during spring season

KATHMANDU, April 29:The government has appointed 77 liaison officers to manage mountain climbing this season.

According to the Department of Tourism, 48 employees from the Ministry of Tourism and its subordinate organizations have been assigned as liaison officers for the spring season of 2024.

Liaison officers assigned this way should accompany their climbing teams to the base camp of the mountain.

Until the climbing is completed, they must stay at the same camp as government representatives and assist with climbing management.

This time, the government has assigned Khimlal Gautam of the survey department to lead the field office at Everest base camp.

According to information provided by the department on Friday, some of those appointed as liaison officers have yet to be deployed in the field.

According to the department's records, the majority of employees assigned by agencies other than the Ministry of Tourism have yet to arrive on the field.

According to the latest department data, 859 individuals from 94 teams have taken permission to climb 27 summits this season.

According to the department, the most individuals (388 from 36 teams) obtained climbing clearance on Everest. Liaison officers are assigned to help with the climbing management of these climbers and to monitor their actions.
