68th Mount Manaslu Climbing Day to be celebrated in Chumanubri

GORKHA, May 04:68th Mount Manaslu Climbing Day will be observed for the first time in Chumanubri Rural Municipality, North Gorkha. On May 9, 1956, Japanese mountaineer Toshio Imanishi and Nepalese mountaineer Gyaltsen Norbu Sherpa successfully climbed Manaslu Mountain for the first time, and it was announced that the 68th Mt Manaslu Climbing Day would be honored in a news conference.

Since then, Mt Manaslu has been discussed in the international adventure tourism community. At a press conference organized by the Dharche Manaslu Tourism Development Committee, Chumanubri Rural Municipality Chairman Nima Lama stated that, while the Manaslu Himal Climbing Day has previously been observed in Kathmandu, the rural municipality is celebrating it for the first time.

According to Chairman Lama, a cultural event will be held on the occasion of the day to thank tourists who arrive in the Manaslu area by the Manaslu trail, worship nature, and learn about various local cultures.

On the same date, there will be a rally with the Nepal Mountaineering Association's (NMA) flag and banner, he said.

He stated that the local administration will begin to celebrate the day on a regular basis starting this year. It is thought that it will aid in the promotion of Gorkha tourism and the tourism industry.

Santosh Sherchan, Director of the Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP) Gorkha, stated during the press conference that he believes Manaslu Conservation Area has the potential to become the first trekking tourism destination.

Sane Bahadur Gurung, Chairman of the Dharche Manaslu Tourism Development Committee, who was present at the news conference, stated that the district's Mt Manaslu Climbing Day series has begun, which is significant for Gorkha. "The attraction of local and foreign tourists to climb the Mt Manaslu is also increasing" , he went on to say, "by promoting it further, a day is going to be celebrated for the promotion of the Mt Manaslu."

He states that many foreign climbers from Norway, the United States of America, Denmark, Canada, and the Czech Republic opt to climb Mt Manaslu. Mt Manaslu, located in the Chumanubri Rural Municipality of Gorkha, is the world's eighth highest mountain range.
