NMA's elections Saturday

Kathmandu, August 04: Election of the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) will be held at Naxal on Saturday. A new 25-member working committee will be picked from the polls that will start from 8 am to 5 pm. A total of 1039 will cast vote. All preparations have been over to hold the elections in free and fair manner, said NMA President Angchhiring Sherpa.

Presidential candidates Jimbajangbu Sherpa and Santa Bir Lama have separately intensified their poll campaign to woo voters through SMS. Although the formal campaigns are barred from Thursday evening, candidates can hold publicity programme through SMS, said General Secretary candidate Bodhraj Bhandari.

Talking to Rastriya Samachar Samiti, presidential candidate Sherpa said it was necessary for his team to win to retain NMA's professional image. Sherpa has a backing from the Nepal Tourism Entrepreneurs Association close to the Nepali Congress and the Independent Tourism Entrepreneurs Association close to Naya Shakti Nepal while Lama is supported by the Nepalese National Tourism Entrepreneurs Association close to the CPN-UML and the Nepal Tourism Entrepreneurs Organisation close to CPN (Maoist Centre).

Meanwhile, five candidates for the NMA new leadership have been unanimously elected. The elected candidates (Pasang Bhote Sherpa, Angdawa Sherpa, Mingma David Sherpa, Nawangnarbu Sherpa and Kapil Pandey) include one from the establishment and the remaining four from mountaineers.
