Number of domestic tourists travelling in Dashain reaches 30%

KATHMANDU, Oct 25: 30% of domestic tourists of the Nepal's population have travelled in various destinations of the country within the Dashain holiday. According to Deepak Raj Joshi, CEO of Nepal Tourism Board, during the holiday provided by the government in Dashain around 30% of the domestic tourist within a 1 year has travelled throughout various places." Around 4 million 5 hundred thousand domestic tourists travel in Nepal within a year and during this holiday 30% of the domestic tourists i.e. 1 million 5 hundred thousand have travelled," he added.

He said that the number of tourists visiting Pokhara, Chitwan, Lumbini, trekking routes, Home stays, and religious destination has increased. Likewise, domestic tourists especially prefer to travel trekking routes, home stay and religious destination. The hotels, home stays of Pokhara, Mustang and Chitwan was already booked before the arrival of Dashain which shows the sign of positive domestic tourism.

Ang Pemba Sherpa, General Secretary of Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) mentioned that the hotels of the main tourist hub of Nepal, Thamel has been packed. The hotels and home stays of khumbu region have also been packed as this season is regarded as the favorable season of travelling.

Similarly, Binayak Shah General Secretary of Hotel Association of Nepal( HAN) said that Nepal has potential to increase the number of domestic tourists and we have capacity to provide rooms to 2 million 5 hundred thousand tourists. Past few years the number of tourists in Mustang and Rara region has also been increasing.
