KATHMANDU, Feb 18: A 30-year-old Swiss citizen, Daniel Mayor, has successfully conducted paragliding tests from different points in Rukum district.

Mayor conducted a test flight from Bhaisekhal which landed successfully at Syarpu Lake. Another flight started from Banfikot and landed at Rukumkot. Following these tests, Mayor said that the district is a suitable place for the sport. He said that with proper promotion, Rukum can develop into a famous place for paragliding.

Paragliding tests had been conducted before in Rukum in October and November of 2016, after which these are the first tests to be done.

President of Tourism Promotion and Environment Conservation Center Rukum, Chandra Bahadur K.C. said, "The process of searching for new destinations is ongoing. However, in recent days, there has been little development in this subject due to lack of interest of the local level." K.C. believes that 30 percent of the tourism development budget should be allocated for the development of the sport in Rukum, which would allow employment opportunities and support the economic development of the district.
