KATHMANDU, Jan 20: The NATHM Student Chapter of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Nepal has organized a Gosainkunda trip with the aim to promote off-season tourism in the tourist destination.

A group of eight people from the PATA Nepal Student Chapter NATHM visited Gosainkunda from January 13th to 17th with the aim to promote the beauty of Gosainkunda during the winter season. The group visited areas near Gosainkunda including Dhumche, Lauribinayak, and Surya Kunda. Surya Kunda, especially, lies 3-4 hours ahead of Gosainkunda and is a wonderful place which allows one to observe various mountain ranges including the Langtang range.

The Annapurna Community Trek is also a great opportunity to observe the local culture, especially in the winter off-season. Binod Khadka, Chairman of the NATHM Student Chapter, said, “The lifestyle can be observed during this time, people belonging to Tamang, Magar and Sherpa perform various rituals.”

The group also observed the effect of off-season on the tourism businesses in the region, and found that most of the hotels in the area were closed due to the lack of customers.

It is common practice for tourists to visit mountain destinations during the summer, especially August-September. However, the winter season has its own attractions that are mostly unknown. “Our team, with our trek would love to inform the world that Gosainkunda is not just a tourist destination during August September, but it is even more beautiful and fruitful to trek during winter,” said Khadka.

The PATA Student Chapter makes regular trips to tourism destinations with the aim of promoting those destinations during the off-season and in general. It has in the past visited Poon Hill, and also Kailash Cave in Kafki, which is a lesser known destination.
