Photo journalist Purnima Shrestha becomes first women to set foot on Mt. Dhaulagiri

KATHMANDU, Oct 01: Photojournalist Purnima Shrestha has successfully climbed the world's seventh highest Dhaulagiri Mountain. Shrestha, a member of the Photo Journalists Club, reached the peak at 6 am on Friday. With a successful ascent, Shrestha became the first Nepali woman to set foot on the summit of Dhaulagiri Himal.

Purnima is proud to be the first Nepali woman to set foot on the summit of Dhaulagiri Himal in Dhaulagiri-4, Myagdi. Shrestha, 29, who was born in Arughat in Gorkha district, has previously climbed Mt. Everest in 2018, Manaslu in 2017 and Ama dablam in 2019. Purnima, who has been active in photography for over a decade, is currently working for Karobar Rastriya Aarthik Daily.

Along with Purnima, climber Pasang Lamu Sherpa has also successfully climbed Dhaulagiri Himal. She has also set the record of the first two Nepali women to set foot on the peak of Dhaulagiri. Shrestha went to Dhaulagiri Himal ascent on foot on September 18 through Seven Summit Trekking Company.
