President Bhandari attends cultural programme

COLOMBO, May 14: President Bidya Devi Bhandari attended a cultural programme hosted by the Sri Lankan government in her honour on Saturday night at Nelum Pokuna Theatre in Colombo.

President Bhandari was greeted by her Sri Lankan counterpart Maithripala Sirisena. The reception was attended by Sri Lanka's House Speaker Karu Jayasoriya, Justice and Buddhasasana Minister Dr Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, Minister for Foreign Employment and Deputy Foreign Minister Dr Harsha de Silva among top Sri Lankan officials, chiefs of diplomatic missions and representatives as well as foreign dignitaries participating in the UN Vesak Day – 2017 Conference.

President Bhandari arrived in Colombo earlier in the day for a five – day official visit at the invitation of the Sri Lankan President.

President Sirisena also hosted a banquet in honour of the visiting Nepali President later in the evening. President Bhandari will attend the closing ceremony of the UN Vesak Day Conference as the Chief Guest today in Kandy.
