Qatar- Gulf spat parleys Nepali workers in Gulf

KATHMANDU, June 13 : The spat between the Qatar and the gulf countries resulted in suspend of flights has left Nepali workers affected there. Many of the Nepali workers are left there stranded in lack of the flights to Nepal.

“After the suspension of flights by the other gulf countries the number of flights taking off from Doha is slashed. We have been notified about the situation of Nepali workers there but this was not reported as we fear panic among the Nepali here,” sources inside the Foreign Ministry confirmed.

The spat of between the Qatar and the Gulf countries also has resulted in the low number of departures for the gulf countries and arrival. Previously, the number of passengers to Gulf use to be about 700 but now it has been confined to hardly One Hundred.

On June 5, the Ethihad Airways flight from Kathmandu to Doha of Qatar were suspended. The flag carrier of the UAE has suspended all its flights from Abu Dhabi to and from Doha after Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates severed their diplomatic ties with Qatar following tension among the Gulf countries.
While Etihad Airways does not make direct flights to Doha from Kathmandu, it has been making four flights a day to Doha via Abu Dhabi.
