Rajbiraj Airport to conduct test flight on May 3

KATHMANDU, Apr 22: The upgradation work of Rajbiraj Airport in Saptari has finally completed with the construction of its runway. The trial for the airport will be taking place on May 3. An aircraft belonging to Buddha Air will be taking part in the trial.
The construction had started in 1959 and was inaugurated by then Transport Minister Ganesh Man Singh. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal had allocated the budget for the completion of airport project in 2015.
According to project chief Ram Ekwal Mahato, the airport is in the final phase of construction with works like final repairs of the air traffic control and marking of the runway remaining. The airport needs an additional 22 bighas to create a buffer zone at both ends of the runway, said Mahato. The Tourism Ministry has allocated Rs520 million for this purpose, which is yet to be released by the Finance Ministry. “We will initiate the land procurement process as soon as the fund is released,” said Mahato.
